💥💥💥💥👀What’s your money worth today? When I was a kid gasoline was 19 cents a gallon. You could fill your whole car up on 2 bucks! A brand new Corvette was 5 grand, and very few people could afford one. A large candy bar was a nickel. The Saturday movie matinee was 25 cents where we would stay all day watching serials of Buck Rogers and other classics. We would have Yo Yo contests on the stage at the theater. Popcorn was a dime. My dad made $700 a month. The house I grew up in cost $13,000. 1,200 square feet one bath. We had a maid two days a week, Ida Mae; she was like a mother to me. She was paid $6 dollars a day. She cooked, cleaned house, and did the laundry once a week. My mom would drive her to the laundry mat. I used to hunt quail and dove in my neighborhood with my pellet gun and she would cook them for all of us to eat. She ate with us. We never had a washing machine or dryer. We hung the clothes up on a line behind the garage. A hamburger and a vanilla malt was 35 cents. Pennies had value. I am so thankful I grew up then. This world we are now living in is sad. We would play in the rainstorms putting doodle bugs on popsicle sticks and race them down the curbs on their way to the drains. We would catch them just in time so they wouldn’t be washed away. We swam in the streets during Hurricane Carla in Houston. We were fearless. We would fill our pockets with china berries and use them for ammo as we shot down yellow jacket nests with our slingshots. They would come after us after we shot one down and sometimes stinging us on the back of our necks. We thought that was fun and thrilling! We were tough! Played outside from dawn to dusk. No cell phone, no computer, no video games…thank God. We loved going to bowling alley playing pin ball. A nickel a game. My allowance was 25 cents a week. The Beach Boys were my most influential music group. Tarzan, Johnny Weissmuller, was my childhood hero. I would eat my lunch in the big tree in my front yard. After Christmas we would collect every Christmas tree and build huge forts. During Halloween we used pillow cases to collect our candy because we had so much! And it was good candy! If someone was handing out apples we would take a quick bite or two and then throw them back in their yard, because they didn’t give us candy! Lol There was no fear back then of someone trying to poison you or hurt you. We never even locked our doors! The milkman would leave real milk with the cream at top at my back door two days a week. I could go on for hours. Let’s pray we get some semblance of that back. Freedom is so precious. Chiplitfam17chat
I forgot! We had real fireworks. We had cherry bombs and T and T bombs that were water proof. We would put them in ant beds and blow them to smithereens! A kid at school flushed one down the toilet and it blew it up! No, it wasn’t me! LOL

THE LEGEND OF THE FAWN & FABLE
BY FEMACOLA

nee upon a time, a fawn found herself lost while searching for mushrooms in the enchanted forest. As the shadows of the mighty oaks grew long all around her, she knew the night would soon fall. Her legs shivered in the mountain air, her stomach growled with hunger, and she felt fear creeping up her tail.

She whispered to herself, "Please, a single acorn to eat and a warm pile of leaves for a bed.

That's all I ask." As she spoke, a tear fell from her eye, glinting in the day's last light as it landed on the forest floor.

The trees themselves heard her plea. Honoring their pledge to serve any pure-hearted creature of the forest, they summoned their ancient mountain magic. Where the tiny doe's tear had fallen, an oak shoot rose and began to reach upward. The fawn watched in amazement as a grand transformation began. The tender sprout grew and grew, not into an oak, but into a majestic castle of rich wood and gleaming gold. Roots wrapped around roots, forming a doorway and a split staircase that welcomed the fawn to step forward.

After crossing the threshold, she was greeted by the most beautiful place she had ever seen.

Rich tapestries hung from every wall, and soft pillows covered every surface. A fire crackled gently in a stately fireplace, warming her to the bone. Best of all, a long table was piled high with fine foodstuffs beyond her imagination... not just because she had only ever eaten grasses, acorns, and leaves. The intoxicating smell of roasted meat, hearty vegetables, and refreshing libations drew her irresistibly to the banquet.

She dipped her muzzle into a tureen of soup, and as she lapped it up, an incredible transformation came over her as well.

Within moments, she changed from a tiny fawn into a lionhearted princess. From that day, she vowed to rule over the forest with compassion and joy. All were welcome to share the warm beds of her castle and the fine fare of her table. She named her banquet hall Fawn & Fable so she would never forget her roots and the responsibility she bore for all guests who came to her mountain home.
